Wells Fargo Company Information

Henry Wells and William G. Fargo founded Wells, Fargo & Co. in 1852 as a stagecoach delivery company. As a courier service, it was often enlisted to help hold and transport money. There are several banks that later became part of Wells Fargo such as the Bank of North America, Atlanta National Bank, and the First National Bank of Palm Beach.

It is now the fourth largest bank in America when ranked by assets, and it is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Wells Fargo has approximately 7,200 branches and 13,000 ATMs. It has locations in 36 states, the District of Columbia, and offices in 31 countries and territories to support businesses that operate globally.

In 2016, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) fined Wells Fargo after it was discovered that Wells Fargo employees opened fake accounts and credit cards in customer’s names without their knowledge as a result of high pressure on employees to meet sales goals.

Wells Fargo also faced both civil and criminal lawsuits after the news broke. The settlements reached approximately $3 billion.
